OutZonePLUS provides a facilitated space which enables gay and bisexual men aged 21-30 to plan social and group events. Staff from OutZone are on hand to assist with this process initially, but we hope OutZonePLUS will ultimately be a 'peer-led' group - with its success and development dependant on input from it's members.

"The monthly support network meetings are a great way to meet new people in a safe & welcoming environment"

We used our inaugural meeting (on Tuesday 5th February) to determine how the group should operate (see below), how to publicise the group, to set dates for group meetings and plan the first monthly social event.

We will use future network meetings to plan, develop and deliver a programme of social events and workshops which aim to meet the social and support needs of younger gay men under 30.

Guidelines for users of OutZonePLUS
At the inaugural meeting in February 2008, OutZonePLUS members agreed a set of ground rules and an acceptable behaviour policy for the group. If you are thinking about joining OutZonePLUS, please take a moment to review the following information:

It was agreed:

a) All members of the group must be aged between 21 and 30 years old. Group members may be asked to provide proof of their age and identity. OutZone staff will facilitate this process at monthly support network meetings.

b) The group will not permit the use of alcohol or (or other drugs) during group support network meeting at which are held at PACE HQ. Smoking will be permitted in the designated open space, subject to acceptable use of facilities.

c) All group members will show respect for: Other group members’ opinions; Personal space; Current situation (level of ‘outedness’).

d) Group members will give everyone the space they need to express themselves and/or their opinions during (facilitated) group discussions.

e) Personal information shared as part of group discussions should remain confidential.

f) The group will provide a safe and welcoming environment to all and group introductions will take place at the start of each support network meeting based at PACE HQ.

g) Attitude (and bitchiness) will be considered unacceptable at support network meetings.

h) The group will not tolerate racism, homophobia, bi-phobia, trans-phobia, disruptive or potentially violent behaviour or any anti-social behaviour that is deemed offensive or unacceptable by other group members and/or PACE staff. The group will aim to ‘value difference’.

j) The ground rules will be reviewed annually and/or to ensure they reflect changing need.

.

Note: In addition to the ground rules listed above, you should also be aware that staff from OutZone (who help facilitate monthly group meetings at PACE) are not currently funded to work with young men aged 26 and over on a one to one basis. However, if you feel you need more specialist help or advice, our staff are usually able to refer you to a service which could provide additional support. Email us for further information.
