Not sure what to say or expect?

It’s only natural to be feeling a bit nervous about getting in touch to ask for advice and/or coming along to the weekly youth groups for the first time, but there really is nothing to worry about. All our youth work staff are professionally trained, C.R.B checked* (to the enhanced level) and have many years of experience of supporting LGBT(Q) young people in London.

We operate from a safe and welcoming base in Islington, North London, only a couple minutes walk from Caledonian Road tube station. (Piccadilly Line). If you email us, we’ll send you a map with full directions, including tube, train and bus routes.

Nervous, anxious, scared & worried are just some of the different words young people (just like you?) have used to describe how they felt about getting in touch or coming along to the youth groups for the first time, but after they’d made that initial step to email us and/or attend the groups, nearly all of them agree they were worrying unnecessarily. ‘The hardest part for many is picking up the phone or walking through the door for the first time’, according to those that have already taken the plunge…

All we would say is, just take a deep breath and go for it. If you’re feeling a bit lonely or isolated, (or just want to make some cool new friends), we think you’ll be glad you did… Scroll down for more info on what to expect if you’re not sure what to say when contacting us for the first time…

Contacting us by telephone and email:

If you contact us by telephone (020 7770 1323 – during office hours), we’ll usually ask you for your first name, your age and ask what part of London you are living in. We’ll tell you a bit about our groups; its members; the type of things we get up to, and we’ll give you information about where and when we meet. If you email us for youth group details, we’ll also send you a map with full directions, including tube, train and bus routes.

Not sure what to say?

Well, you could try this: “Hello – I’d like some more information about… (whatever you want information about!) …please” and we’ll take it from there (!)

Wondering what to expect on your first visit?

Once you’ve actually made it through the door, you’ll be met by a member of staff who’ll have a chat with you about the group and its members and you’ll be asked to complete a confidential* registration form. Note: You may be asked to prove your age and/or identity. We never share your details with anyone, without your express permission. We’ll then show you around and introduce you to the other staff and group members.

…OutZone members do their best to make all newbies feel welcomed and included…

You don’t have to take part in the planned programme unless you want to, and you don’t have to stay for the whole session. You are free to leave at any time – however most people end up staying…and coming back the following week!

You’ve made it this far…maybe its time to explore YOUR OutZone?
